Mandala Village, Cirebon: A Hidden Paradise with Alluring Tradition and Nature

Mandala Village is one of the villages located in Cirebon Regency, Duku Puntang District. Mandala is directly adjacent to Cikalahang village and Cangkoak village. This village has a history and a variety of exciting potentials. The history of Mandala village is that  “Mandala” is taken from the phrase “Menda menda dialana” meaning harvest everywhere. Ancient elders fought in the village of Mandala. One of the people from the palace created a palwijen garden. One of the gardens included a rice field. This palwijen rice field has fertile soil, so the Mandala village is always give an abundant harvest. Therefore, most of the population has worked as farmers. mandala has potential from several aspects, here are some of the village potentials

Nature Potential of village

Agriculture and fisheries are the two most significant natural potentials in Mandala Village. The village has fertile land. The village head has a program with the government. The program ensures  self-sufficiency in food resources. Most residents have a “balong” next to their house in fisheries. Residents form a group to share sales information about seeds and fishery balongs.

Socio-cultural potential.

The villagers of Mandala Village preserve the fascinating culture of “Acara Buyut”, which they hold once a year. The event called “Acara Buyut” because residents still believe that when the buyut or village elder comes in the dream of one of the residents, it means that the buyut is ask for the event to be held. The event usually begins with sedekah bumi and is follow by a Wayang show.

Mandala village has a hero’s tomb monument. The central government took the hero’s tomb and moved it to a unique hero’s tomb. This monument used to serve as a hero’s tomb. Village officials say that if the authorities do not move the hero’s grave this could become one of the religious tours in Mandala village.

Natural tourism also exists in Mandala village, namely Curug Cigetruk. This tourism is good economic potential for this village. Visitors to this waterfall are increasingly declining. The difficult access road down to the waterfall deters people. The terrible condition of the road discourages visitors. When this tour attracts a crowd, the villagers benefit economically by trading around the waterfall. To attract a crowd again, certain things must be done, such as improving access to the waterfall.
