Kesenden Cirebon Ready to Become a Religious, Maritime, and Cultural Tourism Destination

Kesenden, a subdistrict in Kejaksan, Cirebon City, is positioning itself as a new tourism destination. The local government and community are actively developing various tourism potentials, including religious tourism, marine tourism, and unique cultural activities.

Local leaders and residents are currently revitalizing eight historical tombs of Islamic figures, such as Ki Buyut Syawal, Ki Mudin Agung, Ki Jaga Baya, Ki Semara, and Pangeran Palembang. The community cleans the tomb areas, installs nameplates, and prepares historical narratives to help visitors learn about the figures buried there. These efforts aim to transform the sites into educational religious tourism attractions.

In addition to religious tourism, Kesenden is also focusing on its coastal area. The Cirebon City Government plans to turn Pantai Kesenden (Kesenden Beach) into a family-friendly recreational area. The plan includes building playgrounds, food centers, and small-scale water attractions. Residents and environmental communities like Pandawara Group have already started regular beach clean-up activities to make the coastline cleaner and more inviting for tourists.

Kesenden also preserves its rich cultural traditions. Every year, the community holds the Nadran or sea thanksgiving ritual. In this ceremony, fishermen carry offerings to the sea as a symbol of gratitude for the year’s catch. This tradition has the potential to become a cultural tourism event that attracts both local and international visitors.

At the same time, Kesenden actively promotes local small businesses. Residents produce traditional food, handicrafts, and coastal batik. These products will become part of the tourism package, allowing visitors to enjoy not only sightseeing but also shopping for authentic Cirebon souvenirs.

With all these potentials, Kesenden is ready to become an integrated tourism destination. Visitors will experience religious, marine, cultural, and creative economic activities all in one place.
