The potential culture of Warugede village might not widely recognized for having rich or diverse in culture, but still preserve meaningful traditions that reflect daily lives and value of the society. The culture in this village is most likely similar and identical as in other areas of Cirebon.
The Grave of Ansector Sikuta
One example is Sedekah Bumi, or the Earth Gratitude Ritual. Villagers hold this traditional thanksgiving event every year, to express their gratitude, and to strengthen community bonds. They would make food, collect it and share it with each other. Often, this event also accompanied by additional activites, such as inviting local entertainment or a religious gathering, like pengajian.
The village also has other cultural practices, such as the surak ceremony. Surak is a tradition in which money is scattered for people to catch, typically using coins. The ceremony symbolizes communal sharing and generosity, and it is an event eagerly anticipated by all.
Furthermore, there are traditions like four-month and seven-month ceremonies for pregnant women, as well as bebersih and puputan rites related to different stages of life of newborn baby. Though these are small-scale, they reveal the community’s respect for age-old beliefs and the importance of family and continuity.
Another tradition is the annual Shalawatan, where this is actually a religious event where villagers gather to pray and recite shalawat. It is a quiet yet meaningful way to nurture the spiritual life of the community.
In addition, the village organizes an annual volleyball competition. This simple event is a highlight for the local youth and brings the community closer through sports and shared enthusiasm.
Although the cultural activities in Warugede aren’t many or big, they really show how close and caring the village community is. People still value these traditions because they play an important role in shaping the community’s identity. Overall, Warugede’s culture is simple but full of warmth, cooperation, and respect for old values. It’s important to keep these traditions alive so they don’t disappear over time.
