Do you know and have you ever heard of what Karyamulya is? Let’s follow and see the explanation of what is in Karyamulya, like Legends, Legacy and Local Wisdom.

This is a picture of the Karyamulya area on a map.

Despite being one of the smaller cities in West Java, Cirebon has a wealth of history and originality that will wow you. Because Cirebon is frequently passed on the Pantura road, some people consider it to be a tiny city that is immediately visible.

But first, let’s discuss Cirebon’s advantages.Situated in the heart of the city, Karyamulya is one of 22 sub-districts that border the district on multiple sides. Perhaps this is why some parties are interested in moving to Karyamulya, a very pleasant area that is home to many different sides of society. The Karyamulya area was a vast expanse of sea, forests, and swamps. Still, there are fascinating histories to know and discuss, such as iconic street names, because they have memorable origins.

1. Perjuangan Street

In Cirebon, Lieutenant Abdul Qodir led the Red Kancil Troops in their struggle against the Dutch, resulting in the loss of fifteen heroes. This battle directly influenced the construction of the monument and the naming of Perjuangan Street.

On July 21, 1947, the Dutch betrayed the Linggar Jati agreement. The Dutch, including Cirebon, suddenly invaded the areas recognized as independent. History records this event as the First Dutch Military Aggression.

Today, the Struggle Monument stands in Cirebon City, commemorating this historic event. Perjuangan Street, which includes the Evacuation Road, has become one of Cirebon’s most popular school districts, lined with numerous educational institutions and lecture halls. Additionally, the Perjuangan Street area usually features street food that offers a variety of both traditional and contemporary cuisines because of its favorable position that enables it to reach students and those around.

2. Kandang Perahu Street

Kandang Perahu Street may sound unique because there are no waters or beaches. This road has no direct relationship with the element ‘boat’ in its name.

During the Dutch colonial era, this location served as a mooring place for the Cirebon Palace’s boats. During the 14th and 15th centuries, it was a lake known as Segara Amparan Jati. The origin of Kandang Perahu Street itself is closely tied to the geographical changes of Cirebon both now and in the past.

Significant geographical changes occurred due to drought and Dutch colonial policies that closed many rivers. This action led to the shrinking of the existing waters in some of the surrounding areas, and the name Kandang Perahu has survived as a trace of the area’s historical past.

3. Radar Cirebon

Radar Cirebon is a daily morning newspaper published in Cirebon, West Java. This daily is still in the same group as Disway. It was born and formed on December 20, 1999.

Radar Cirebon has circulation in Cirebon, Indramayu, Kuningan, and Majalengka. It has 28 pages, published every day except Sundays, and published with 20 pages.

In 2011, Radar Cirebon built a new office called Graha Pena based at Jalan Perjuangan No 9 Cirebon City. Radar Cirebon is developing Radar Indramayu, Radar Kuningan, and Radar Majalengka to present more local news.

One of the things that has an advantage of the Karya Mulya area is the existence of a Cirebon Radar building built on Jalan Perjuangan, which makes it easier for some people who may have complaints about the latest news to share or get information from Cirebon Radar itself.

4. Blok Situgangga

Another interesting fact is that the Karyamulya area has a village named ‘Situgangga.’ Many believe that long before Gua Sunyaragi existed, a large lake called Situgangga, a relic of the Indraprahasta Kingdom, covered this area.

Some of the Tradition in Karyamulya village such as:

  • Nujuh Bulan
  • Saweran
  • Mudun Lemah
  • Sedekah Bumi

Communities hold the Nujuh Bulan ceremony to express gratitude when a pregnancy reaches seven months. They perform Saweran as a way to appreciate achievements or milestones. Families celebrate Mudun Lemah when a child takes their first steps, presenting them with various objects that carry symbolic meaning. People also observe Sedekah Bumi on special occasions, such as Independence Day, by gathering for communal prayers or shared meals to express gratitude for the land. This tradition often includes offering harvests from the earth harvest.

Potentials and Challenges

I see great potential for development in Karyamulya, particularly in its impressive economic and cultural aspects. However, many people may not yet recognize the historical wisdom that remains unexplored. There is still much to uncover about its origins and hidden aspects that have yet to be deeply researched.

One major challenge lies in the declining visibility of community values. As globalization accelerates, it gradually erodes these values. The community must rebuild a stronger and more positive mindset while encouraging young people to engage in meaningful activities that can be maximized and expanded.

With its rich history, Karyamulya sub-district has an excellent opportunity to explore and rediscover significant aspects that remain unknown. https://kelkaryamulya.cirebonkota.go.id/sejarah/
