Larangan Village is a village located in the Harjamukti sub-district, Cirebon City. Larangan Village was previously known as Kalijaga village, before it divided into two different villages, Kalijaga Village and Larangan Village, in 1970 as the city of Cirebon grew. The name “Larangan” was taken from the Sultan of Cirebon’s policy in the past, which prohibited construction or specific activities in the area without special permission from the government. The prohibition imposed to maintain order and security in the area, as well as to regulate land use in a more planned manner. Over time, locals have come to refer to the area around the village as “Perum” rather than “Larangan” because the village was included in the Perum Perumnas BUMN project and eventually became a densely populated central area on the outskirts of Cirebon. The village has 19 RW and 116 RT, with an estimated population of more than 20,000 people. The potential in this village includes the economy through the trade of local MSMEs.
Region Map

The area of Larangan Village stretches 197.5 Hectares and is passed by the Pantura Highway (Cirebon people usually call it “The Bypass Highway”) in the middle of the village, separating the Larangan Village into two areas. The people of Cirebon usually call the northern Larangan area “Perum Burung” because there are many roads that use the names of birds, such as Rajawali Street, Elang Raya Street, Nuri Street, and etc. Meanwhile, the southern are is commonly called “Perum Gunung” because many roads use mountain names, such as Gunung Tampomas Street, Gunung Lawu Street, Gunung Bromo Street, and etc. Larangan Village borders Drajat Village to the north, Pegambiran Village to the east, Kecapi Village to the west, and Kalijaga Village to the south.
Densely Populated Settlements

Larangan Village is primarily residential. As we go deeper into the village along the residential streets, we will find several narrow, densely populated housing estates. The access roads are narrow. Large vehicles such as car or minibus cannot pass through these dense settlements. The dense settlements in the inner area of the housing estate formed because there was land left over from the construction that was eventually sold by the Perum Perumnas or bought by migrants or residents who wanted to build a house in this Larangan Village.
A Heaven for MSMEs

Larangan Village is very famous for its cuisine and snacks. Stretching from Rajawali Street in the north to Ciremai Raya Street in the south, we will find a wide variety of snacks at low prices but with delicious flavors. Not to forget, various heavy culinary delights can also founded here. Along this road, residents around Larangan who make a living as traders earn money for their lives. They sell from morning until midnight with peak hours at 5 to 8 p.m., No wonder many Cirebon people say “In Perum, everything is available and easy”. This strategic economic location, surrounded by many supporting infrastructures such as hospitals, supermarkets, markets, and banks that are close and gathered together, makes this road the economic heart of Larangan village. Not infrequently, in the evening, especially on Sunday nights or when entering the month of Ramadan, this road is crowded and often causes congestion. The habit of the residents of Larangan who like to snack makes this road crowded, and there are always new traders popping up. This kind of enthusiasm has increased the potential of MSMEs in the Larangan Village and has led to an increase in the village’s economic income.
Problem: Broken Road

The negative side of the food and culinary center in Larangan village due to the centralization from Rajawali Street to Ciremai Raya Street is the damaged roads. This centralization certainly makes the volume of vehicles on the road extensive and makes the asphalt on the road quickly damaged. In addition, the rain that falls always causes flooding on the road. Also, the residential streets, making the asphalt erode faster and eventually make the road damaged. At some locations, when it rains, the road looks like a river where water flows from the south to the north swiftly into the Cikalong River. This flooding condition has been going on for years, and there seems to be no solution from the local government.
Suggestions for the Problem
The village government can create a new food court or culinary place in a specific place so that the main
road in Larangan village is not jammed and quickly damaged. For flood management, the construction
of water absorption wells, cleaning of culverts, and widening or expanding water disposal canals in residential areas can be done. After that, changing the road material from asphalt to concrete seems to
be possible so that the road does not deteriorate quickly and cut the budget each year to fix damaged
roads in Larangan village.
