Consequently, the name Jagasatru embodies the concept of vigilantly safeguarding and monitoring potential adversaries seeking entry into the Cirebon kingdom during that particular era.
Pasar Jagasatru is currently the main market for Region III Cirebon. It collects agricultural products from local farmers and then distributes them to different markets. The wholesale market plays a crucial role in distributing essential goods, making sure that key commodities are always available at fair prices.
The distribution of essential commodities, particularly vegetables, holds a significant influence over Pasar Jagasatru. This bustling marketplace offers a wide array of vegetables, including but not limited to potatoes, chilies, and tomatoes. These fresh produce items are sourced directly from local farmers.
However, Pasar Jagasatru continues to thrive as a bustling center for business dealings and a crucial revenue generator for the people of Cirebon.
The origins of Pasar Jagasatru can be traced back to its humble beginnings as an ethnic Chinese cemetery in 1921. Over the years, the landscape of this location underwent significant changes, transitioning from a burial ground to a residential space. As the community expanded, the area gradually transformed into a semi-modern traditional market, catering to the needs of the local population.
Prior to undergoing extensive building renovations, Pasar Jagasatru boasted a wide range of amenities. Notably, the market’s third floor served a dual purpose, functioning as both a supermarket and a cinema named “Empire.” Unfortunately, in 2005, a devastating fire engulfed the cinema, leading to its subsequent reconstruction as a new building. This revamped structure now serves as a semi-traditional market, blending modern elements seamlessly with its traditional roots
