
The Building Museum Pusaka Keraton Kanoman is a historical building. This museum building contains historical items such as gamelan, Kereta Kencana and others. Keraton Kanoman Museum is located within the Kesultanan Kanoman Complex of Cirebon, Merdeka Street Number 28, Lemahwungkuk Village, Cirebon City, West Java.
Building Museum Pusaka Keraton Kanoman, which was originally just a bamboo booth, was built in the 1800s. The building was later converted into a museum after a series of renovations. During the reign of Sultan Zurkarnaen, the 8th. Sultan of Kanoman, the building was renovated twice, specifically in 1920 and 1976. Sultan Djalaludin ordered a third renovation in 1980. Finally, in 1997 the building was turned into a permanent structure under the orders of the 9th Sultan of Kanoman.
The historical collections in the Museum include ukiran,gamelan, tombak, and kereta kencana. The two famous kereta kencana, the Paksi Naga Liman and the Jempana, were created in 1428 by Prince Losari and were last used in 1933. Kereta kencana Paksi Naga Liman has the shape of an animal with wings, a dragon’s head and an elephant-like trunk, combining elements from three cultures: Islamic culture symbolized by the bird,China is symbolized by the dragon head and Hinduism is symbolized by the elephant trunk.
While Jempana, in Cirebon language means “Jemjeming Pengagem Manahayang” which means the determination of the empress. In addition, the Jempana carriage is decorated with a cloudy mega motif, symbolizing the determination of the empress.
The museum also houses other artifacts such as the Paksi Naga Jalma carving and the Peti Mesir used by Sunan Gunung Jati. In addition, there is a 700-year-old Gading Gilang Kencana chair, which is attributed to Prince Walangsungsang of the Padjajaran Kingdom. And is one of the important figures in the history of the Kesultanan Cirebon.
